It’s worht 10X the money… seriously, it’s an amazing bargain for what it does. I gave it a 1.5Gig WMV and it converted it to a mpeg-4 in a few minutes (I wasn’t paying attention). The result looked great.

I tried to convert a video but the destination folder was not available which caused the source file to be overwritten, the video was 1hr 30min long and 12 GB. It was converted to 1 seconds and 98KB. This is a big problem. How do I get my file back?

I like this app a lot. It’s totally worth spending a little bit if you want to convert more than a couple of files. The free ones are so very slow. This one excels in converting .flv files. It’s quick and the quality is good. I’d give it a perfect rating were it not for a couple of glitches in converting .mkv files where it ballooned them up to 4.29 gb (every one the same size) and they were unplayable. Otherwise, it’s aces.

I really dont know what else to say except this app is AMAZING!!!! No directions or tutorials needed. Very strait forward, Very simple, and super effective. My 7 year old uses this app to add her videos to her iphone 3gs. Thank you for keeping this app up to date and not some dumb price. This app does what it says it does. Thats a good thing these days. 5 Stars!

What can I say, I needed an app that converted multiple vids and the same time, this is fast and it works. Nothing crazy fancy, and thats a good thing. Well qorth the 5.99 if you convert a lot of video for Apple TV or iPhone/iPad.

i Love the way this app works and the fact that it can convert and keep pretty much and file as close to the origonal as possible is wonderful. The oly thing i feel thiss app is missing is the ability to gather Album artwork and file info for movies and TV shows like how some of the other app can do.If this could do this it would be a great addition.

3.5 stars, round down to balance the other ratings. i bought this app mid 2014 and it works well in encoding, etc. however, i think there are room for some simple, but important improvements. for starters, the encoding concept is based on “State" instead of “File", which i think is a poor choice. State pertains to “am i encoding?” instead of File “what am i encoding?”. For example, once an encoding has started (say iPad encoding) *every next encoding* you add while the first is running must also be iPad, ie, you can’t start one iPad then add another for iPhone (ie, State vs File). if you’re doing one encoding here and there, then this view works, but not if you have a lot of encodings to do. MANY times i’ve wanted to start some AVIs with my custom settings and also add some MP4s with iPhone, but you can’t. similarly the preferences can’t be modified *while encoding* (ie State vs File) and most prefs will be for all encodings (State vs File). but consider the preference for CPU usage (high, med, low) – that doesn’t have anything to do with the encoding type, but simply how hard your computer is working. it would be better to have a simple drop down outside of prefs (or a menu selection) to select CPU power at *any time*. this would be handy if you’re going away for awhile you can select CPU high, then when you get back (and you queue is still encoding) it’s possible to switch to CPU low so the computer is actually usable for other tasks. between these two issues, it was necessary to shuffle around encodings, stop encodings in process, or plan when i was going to be gone or asleep, etc. which quickly becomes tiresome mental gymnastics for an “easy to use” app. in short, the app is good, but not great – the concept breaks down quickly if you have a lot of different encodings to do. also the app hasn’t been updated in over 18 months and the UI could stand a refresh. i hope it’s not abandon-ware because i do think it’s a good option.

I’ve been struggling to extract audio from a Google+ Hangouts on Air video file (which downloads as an MP4 video file from YouTube) for my podcast. I tried to extract the audio using Quicktime but I kept getting an “unknown error”. I Googled for help, but there weren’t any solutions. So I tried to convert it to audio using iTunes. I can’t stand the iTunes interface but I gave it a shot by importing the MP4 video file into my iTunes library and in prefrences clicking on “Create new version” but the audio file was greyed out (I tried as MP3 and AIFF - neither worked). I Googled that some more to try to figure out why that wasn’t working, but came up without a fix. I was very frustrated and annoyed so I searched for other ways of doing this easily and I found this app. Cheapskarte that I am, I was hesitant to pay for the app when supposdely I could do this for free with Quicktimes and iTunes, but I couldn’t take wasting any more time, so I bought it. It took less than five minutes (way less) to convert it! I dragged the 124 MB MP4 video file into this app, I selected the MP3 option and boom the app convereted the MP4 video file into an MP3 audio file. It was so easy that at first I thought I missed a step until I realized the MP3 was already saved to my computer! Easy to use. Fantastic interface. And very, very fast! I wish I what have found this app before wasting hours trying to figure out how to do this on Quicktime or iTunes. Totally worth the low-price for this app. Awesome app!

Decent performance and batch processing, especially .mkv to .m4v for Apple TV. Reason for 1 star “ding” is that, while it has the capability to select an alternate audio language track for conversion, it doesn’t provide a way to make any particular language the “default”. For example, with one set of files I have, track “0” is listed as “fre”(nch), and track “1” is listed as “eng”(lish). It *should* be possible to somehow tell it to always select the “eng” track, regardless of track number, unless “instructed otherwise” via Advanced mode. Consequently, when converting large numbers of files where the language I want isn’t the default/first listed, I have to do them manually one at a time, which becomes time-consuming. You *can* drag in a group of files to start a batch, but you still have to change the language in Advanced mode on each individual file; there otherwise don’t appear to be any “batch” or “global” settings.

This app has completely been a joy to use. It’s quick and easy, just choose the type of file you’d like your current file to be converted to (MP4, etc.), drag that file into the box, drop it, and watch it go! It’s that simple! Can’t wait to try it on bigger conversions when Im using Final Cut X! 5 STARS!

SpectrePro · 10 years ago

The app doesn’t show you what format it is converting to. You find out by doing the conversion and seeing the new file appear in your folder. I was trying to convert .mov to .mp4 but couldn’t figure it out. The interface is sparse to the point of confusion. I will never use this again and wish I could get my money back.

This is not perfect and there are a couple of things I would change, that others have already mentioned. However, this app transcodes quickly, has several different transcoding and container options, and it doesn’t tax my CPU to the nth degree. The UI is kind of ugly, but I can live with it. It’s stable, fast, robust, efficient. If only it looked prettier and some of the UI stuff was more functional, it would be perfect.

If you’re looking for an app to convert different video files, this is the one to get!! Don’t waste your time looking for anythng else!! It has handled any video files I’ve thrown at it, converting it to M4V/MP4 with ease and quickness!!

boringplanet10 · 10 years ago

I like it

It’s simple to use, works well, and is much faster than the first video converter that I bought, Mac X Video Converter.
